The official report from Vienna by our amazing La Sportiva/blurr testimonial CODY ROTH!
We departed Innsbruck on a cloudy Saturday morning in our yellow, super rigged
La Sportiva Opel Van. It was ˝immer gerade aus˝ five hours to Vienna. We being myself, Luca Mich, DJ extrodonaire and La Sportiva marketing guru, and Giulia Delladio, who’s also repsonsible for LaSpo marketing, BLURR Europe, and keeping the humor and fashion fresh. Naturally the CD player stopped working for the guys en route to Innsbruck, had it not been for Giulia’s pink ball speaker I’m not sure if we would have made it through the dull moments driving through the famrland of upper Austria.
In like Flint, Smith sunglasses had all three of us styled, so when we walked into the hotel lobby they knew who they were dealing with , as if the van wasn’t a dead giveaway. The scene in the lobby was like that Tarantino movie Four Rooms… A lobby with red leather couches, and as we waited for our room keys and sipped our on the house welcome drinks (I told you they knew who they were dealing with), a dodgy guy with an eastern european accent demanded to speak to the boss and cleaning lady regarding his month stay. “I will leave now fity euros to you in the good faith that boss will call me.˝ This guy was a natural actor, I wish we could cast him in the future video from Chuck Fryberger. After getting settled into our room, I showed Giulia and Luca how to jump through doors in the hotel hallway, check out the vid… It’s a trick I’ve been working on for some time.
We decided to hit the town and check out our underground, understated, super status… So, it came as no suprise when we were admitted to Vienna’s most swanky sushi establishment, Little Buddha, just off the famous Stefan’s Dom Platz. The hostess saw our LaSpo shoes and right away she knew the drill, she offered us a table in the private VIP section but we told her that wouldn’t be necessary as we were in Vienna for PR work, we wanted our visit to Little Buddah to be on public display. Little Buddah is three floors of sushi nirvana, and they must have known we were coming because they had a photoshoot set up in the downstair’s disco. As we waited for our sushi to be served, we slightly regretted not taking the VIP room, as we watched stiletos after stiletos stroll out of the private dining area. I suppose we’ll have to go back to Vienna for a guerilla marketing operation to check out that scene.
We hit up the Muesuem Quatier for after dinner drinks with some old friends of mine, Berni Fiedler and Matthias Woitzuck. These guys put the double O in cool, and Berni had some sweet photos to show from their latest climbing trip to Argentina. In addition to being an awesome photog. Berni is also a top level skier and a 8b boulderer and 9a climber. The same goes for Matthias ˝Hiasi˝ except he combines climbing with skydiving and Djing. These guys are always onto the city beat, so we followed them to Vienna’s world famous FLEX. A club where the likes of Kruder&Dorfmeister, DJ DSL, Vienna Scientists, and more have DJd some cool events. That evening was no exception , and we got our groove on to some funkadelic tracks. It was cool inspiration for our party in conjunction with Climax slated for the following day.
Zeitumstellung was in effect Sunday morining so we got an extra hour of sleep before we headed off for carmel machhiatos, muffins, and lachs bagels. We were greeted at the Edelweiss climbing center by a warm public keen to see our latest works of wonders in the shoe department and the BLURR clothing line. I was peppered with questions regarding the Speedster, xgrip rubber, BLURR, and so on.
Nearly 200 hundered people tried out shoes at the Edelweiss which had us happy; and, for the winners of the hobby boulder comp we had shoes, Smith sunglasses courtesey of our man Franz Perini of Smith Optics. Our Vienna athlete Babarra Raudner, was also on hand to help and fly the flag.
The afterparty was held at Club U, located on the Karlsplatz it used to be a subway station, it’s now a three floor club awesome for hosting events. Hats off to Climax for setting that up! On the decks we had a four DJ lineup Hiasi and his bro Nicky, Luca and myself. We had four decks to work with and we kept the rotation so the sound never dropped a beat.
We had the Club U rocking until four in the morning as we mixed through a melange of funk, rap and electro. The Vienna vibe never ceases to be anything less then awesome! The following morning we drank our final carmel macchiatos in a bittersweet unison as we watched the chique city foot traffic go by. None of us were looking forward to singing all the way back to Innsbruck, followed by a ˝svolta sinistra˝ and another two hours back to Val di Fiemme. We brainstormmed next year’s event and all the other awesome cities around the world we should mission to promoting La Sportiva and BLURR. Time will tell…Stay tuned and stay cool!
